Terms of use
The agreement between WriteBuddy and the parent or carer who holds the account.
Last updated September 2026
1. Educational practice purpose
WriteBuddy provides writing prompts, practice tools and automated feedback to help a child build writing skills. It is a practice aid for families. It is not a school assessment, a diagnostic tool, a tutoring service or professional educational advice.
2. No guarantee of academic results
We do not promise any particular improvement, mark, band or test outcome. Progress depends on many factors outside our control, including how often and how carefully the child practises.
3. AI can make mistakes
Feedback, transcriptions of handwriting and suggested next steps are generated with the help of artificial intelligence. They may be incomplete, inconsistent or simply wrong, and may differ from what a teacher or an official assessment would say. Please review feedback with your child and use your own judgement.
4. Parent supervision
The account holder must be at least 18 years old and be the child's parent or carer, or have their permission. You are responsible for supervising your child's use of WriteBuddy, for the content submitted through your account, and for deciding whether the feedback is appropriate for your child.
5. Acceptable use
- Use WriteBuddy only for personal, non-commercial family practice.
- Do not submit unlawful, harmful, abusive or explicit content, or someone else's personal information.
- Do not attempt to break, overload, scrape, reverse engineer or gain unauthorised access to the service.
- Do not resell, redistribute or share account access outside your household.
6. Your writing stays yours
You and your child keep ownership of the writing and images submitted. You give us the limited permission we need to store that content and process it — including through our AI service providers — so we can produce feedback and show progress in your account. We will not use your family's writing to train our own AI models without your explicit consent.
7. WriteBuddy intellectual property
The WriteBuddy name, brand, website, software, prompts, marking approach, report formats and other materials are owned by us or our licensors. You may use them only as part of using the service. You may not copy, adapt or republish them without our written permission.
8. Account security
Keep your password confidential and let us know promptly if you think your account has been accessed without permission. You are responsible for activity that happens through your account.
9. Payments and credits
WriteBuddy is offered as a monthly subscription in Australian dollars, shown inclusive of any applicable taxes at checkout. It renews automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your account page; access continues until the end of the period already paid for, and partial months are not refunded unless required by law. While subscribed, new full assessments are unlimited. New accounts get a 14-day free trial with unlimited assessments, starting on the day the account is created; no payment details are needed and nothing is charged when it ends; opening saved reports, checking a transcription, viewing progress and short rewrite checks never use one. Any credits bought under earlier one-off packs remain usable. Prices and inclusions may change with notice before your next renewal.
10. Termination
You may stop using WriteBuddy and delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, is used unlawfully, or puts the service or other users at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you first.
11. Service availability
We aim to keep WriteBuddy available and reliable, but we cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error free. Features may change, and maintenance or issues with our providers may cause downtime. If an assessment fails because of a technical problem, we will not charge a credit for it.
12. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee or right you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded. Where the law allows us to limit our liability, our liability is limited to resupplying the service or refunding the amount you paid for the affected purchase.
13. Changes and contact
We may update these terms as WriteBuddy develops, and will update the date on this page when we do. To reach us, use the message form on our Contact page to send us a message. These terms are governed by the laws of Australia.
